While Thanksgiving is a few days away, I'm pretty sure that most of you will start preparing early. So, I decided to post this a few days before Thanksgiving.
Like many, I have a lot to be thankful for this year. It's easy to take things for granted (like health, friends and family, jobs, business, etc) as we are busy throughout the year meeting goals and working on making life better. It's also a great idea to reflect on what has been positive over the last year.
In the midst of shopping, preparing for family, and prepping those meals, be sure to take a moment to reflect and be thankful for at least one thing. If you dig a little deeper, I can guarantee that you will have a lot more than one thing to be thankful for this holiday season.
Happy Veteran's Day to all armed forces personnel and first responders past and present. This is always a great time to really reflect on the sacrifices that the great men and women in these roles have made to protect our freedom.
I have family members who have served in these roles. I have great respect for those who have sacrificed for the freedom that is held so dear to many of us.
As a way to celebrate, I will provide $10 off of any service for past and present military and first responders (excluding consultations)! This is for the rest of the 2013.
Happy Veteran's Day and thank you for all that you do!
Picture it. . .a nice beautiful, unseasonably warm November day. . .a beautiful bride preparing for her groom.
Yesterday was the perfect day for a wedding in RVA. The weather was the perfect backdrop of warm weather and the color of autumn leaves. It really doesn't get any better.
Jet, my bride, was a little nervous [about the ceremony] at first but I knew she was going to be just fine.
Jet's theme was "Winter Wonderland." She wanted a silver-and-ice eye with a pink lip and cheek. It's hard to see the full look in this image but it turned out very well. She was pleased. After our makeup session, she was ready to get married! Her nerves had melted away! Proper makeup application has true soothing qualities in addition to beautification. It is my hope that Jet really enjoyed her day! Congrats, Jet!
It's that time of year again. Can you believe that we are all gearing up for another holiday season?
Well, it's here again and it's expected to be another great season in the makeup world. It seems that the new holiday makeup comes out earlier and earlier each year. They have already started arriving! They actually started about a couple weeks ago. There are so many of packages from so many different brands that it would be nearly impossible to name them all.
I was in Ulta a few days ago checking out the different holiday packages offered by brands like Smashbox and Benefit. It was exciting and already had my mind spinning with excitement!
Keep in mind that these gift sets not only make great holiday gifts for fellow makeup lovers, they are also great ways to test brands without spending money on just one product. The sets have a variety of products and/or shades that you can try. I highly recommend sampling products from different brands. Even the sample sizes will last a while.
New York Fashion Week at Hotel Pennsylvania. This was the runway pre-show as we prepared for the event.
The last three weeks have been a whirlwind. It started here with New York Fashion Week 2013. New York is such an awesome city, especially for those in the arts. I absolutely love the place and always look forward to being there. I was recently up there for Fashion Week 2013 as a makeup artist for the Plus Night Out show with Im-Ij Group. The show took place on Friday, September 13, 2013 at Hotel Pennsylvania.
The models had a classic, red, popping lip with a cat eye that also popped. For hair, it was smooth, flat-ironed long hair. The look was classic for the models to show off fashions from the awesome designers. Fashions included beautiful dresses and even some lingerie. The models were absolutely beautiful and full of confidence and had NO problem strutting it down the runway!
Events like this don't go off without a hitch without a strong team. For this event, our team was up about 20-21 hours with about 3 hours of sleep the night before. There were also countless designers, assistants, press and people in other roles who really made all of this possible. It was really a blast being in New York City. This was a realized dream for me and needless to say, it came about much faster than I had even imagined. Until next time, New York!
It's another holiday among us. It's seems like only yesterday we were welcoming the summer and now we are saying goodbye to it. This has definitely been a wet summer in Virginia. So, I feel slighted (just a little bit) but it's all good.
Now, we are getting ready to enter the Fall and Winter seasons. It may be time to start considering a new foundation or lighter version of your summertime foundation. We all usually tend to be lighter in the fall and winter. It's more of our true complexion that comes out because the sun is not strong like it is in the warmer months. Also, you may need to change your moisturizer based on your needs during the colder months.
Until next time......Happy Labor Day!
It doesn't seem like he has been gone for 4 years now. He is definitely missed. Michael Jackson is one of the most impeccable artists that the world! I'm continually in awe of his work ethic. He was excellent for so many reasons. He not only was the greatest, he surrounded himself with the greatest talent.
For any artist of any genre, we can ALL learn from Michael Jackson how to be better in our craft. His excellence has won him countless awards, recognition and a catalog of timeless, classic music that is still played today as it was years ago when it came out.
You are missed Mr. Jackson! Thank you for all that you have done for music and the arts.
What a great time to be alive! There are many great things happening. One of them, this week, was the Anniversary of one of most well-known speeches in the world! Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech.
At the time, it really set something great in motion. Words are powerful. Dreams start in the heart and are set in motion by words. I shudder to think where the United States would be without dreamers like Dr. King. There are so many other who we may not know about but each person had a vital part to play.
What's your dream? Are you taking steps to make that happen? I always remember that dreams are given to us for a reason. Someone needs your dream. Where would the United States or the world, for that matter, be without dreamers? Everything around us started with a dream.
