Just a quick note to wish everyone a wonderful International Women's Day! You're awesome! Never forget that and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Are You Worth The Investment?
In keeping with National Women's History Month, I wanted to touch on beauty and investing in ourselves. So often, we invest in others and then somehow, seem to forget that we need to do things for ourselves.
The question I pose now is this: Are YOU worth the investment? Think about this carefully. With a resounding "yes!" we say with our mouths that we are worth investing in but not always so much with action.
What do you mean, Tammy? Well, let 's think about this. . .what goals have you set this year for yourself outside of your family (or others)? Do you have any career goals that you would like to accomplish? What about any personal goals (like wearing makeup more often or sprucing up your image)?
One may wonder what sprucing up your image has to do with anything. I'll tell you the honest truth: A LOT! We often have been told (in one way or another) that we may not measure up or that image or beauty isn't important. We were lied to y'all! Seriously.
I put my headshot up here because it's the end result of an "image polishing" goal of mine. I wanted to step my image game up. This was personal.
I knew that I wanted some new, updated headshots and I thought my plan out. I knew what I wanted to wear and how I wanted my makeup. I then took action and called in the team and we went to work. It was SO much fun! It also took me out of my comfort zone. It's easier for me to be behind the camera. I believe in stepping out of my comfort zone. It's where the fun is, to be honest. We know what to expect IN our comfort zone-that's why it's called 'comfort.' It's outside of that that new and different experience are waiting for you.
You may be wondering what this has to do with you. . .well, I would say this: start thinking about who you are and how you want that to be presented to the world. Then, decide what action you are going to take to get there. Are you looking for a new job? What about a career change? Or just want to start presenting yourself in a better way? Opt for some great headshots. Headshots really makes ALL the difference when you are presenting yourself to the world.
Are you a blogger? A business mogul? Or a business leader? If you have never had headshots done, it may be time to start thinking about how this investment in yourself can increase your value. If you've had them done but it's been a while, it may be time to start thinking about a new, updated image. We live in a very visual world. A way to stand apart is having a professional headshot. It says that you take your brand seriously because you are willing to invest in yourself. The goal is to look like a well-put together and polished you.
You already have your makeup artist (me)! I can recommend Karea as a photographer. She's great-just look at how my images turned out! Ife is great with natural hair too!
It's important to note that this is an investment. That basically means you want these done right. In order for that to happen, you've gotta call in the pros because they know what they're doing. You don't want a bad headshot of your floating around. That is thee worst!
When you have a date in mind, let's talk soon (email or phone). You ARE worth the investment!
Happy Women's History Month, 2017
"I am woman. Hear me roar."
OK, so it's women's month! I love to see women empowered and doing what they are supposed to be doing.
For me, this month is a great time reflect on the contributions made by women as well as looking at what we can do right now to make history in our own lives. What are we doing this year, today, right now to make our lives what we want them to be?
It doesn't have to be some big massive goal that you burn yourself out trying to accomplish. It could be something as seemingly small, yet powerful as eating more fruit and veggies. What about wearing a new or different lip color? Or what about getting a walk or two in per week? Walking is a great stress reliever and it's easy to do! It seems "small" but the accomplishments are big when you add them up over the course of a week, month or year.
What can you challenge yourself with this month?

Go Nude. Go Neutral.
Spring 2017 trends are starting with come into focus with the turn of the season right around the corner. With new seasons come new trends.
I will touch briefly on nudes and neutrals. Lip color is really a quick and easy way to change up your look without too much extra effort, especially with these two making a strong come back.
For me personally, these two are always in and they never get old. It's nice to see an alternative to bold, strong lips. I love to wear various looks, being an artist, and there are times that nude lips just set the tone for my look.
So, for the spring and summer, we can expect to see nudes and neutrals. What's the difference, you ask? Well, I'll be happy to go into detail.
Basically, nudes are colors that are close to or match your natural lip tone. You can think of it like this: if you skipped wearing nude lipstick, people probably wouldn't notice right away, if at all, because it's so natural-looking. That can be a plus for women who wear makeup but not on a daily basis. Nude colors would be more in the families of browns, taupes, and pinks.
Neutrals, on the other hand, add color without being too dramatic. They are going to be soft, yet noticeable. If you wore a soft rosey-plum, for instance, it would be noticeable if your natural color is pink or red. Plums and pinks would be considered neutral. They offer a pop of color without drawing a ton of attention to the lip. The list doesn't stop there-I just want to give you a better idea of what neutrals "look like."
You'll see these more as we get closer to the season change. It's nice to see know that Spring, 2017 is right around the corner.
Beyonce's Pregnant!
This is probably by far one of the most viewed images of the day. It's no surprise now (unless you've been sleeping under a rock) that Beyonce and Jay-Z are expecting twins!
In typical Beyonce fashion, we get surprised! I ain't mad one bit. What wonderful news!
This photo is so Beyonce. She believes in being fly at all times! Just sayin.' She has given us a red lip here with soft, understated makeup elsewhere giving a great balance to the photo. What a way to announce a pregnancy! As the saying goes, "a picture is worth a thousand words."
Congrats to The Carter family!
The 2017 SAG Awards
2017 SAG Awards are now in the history books. The Screen Actor's Guild Awards shows are unique in that actors and actresses are awarded by their peers. It's one thing for an academy to say you've got skills and something different when your peers appreciate your talents and gifts.
This is awards season in full swing. In saying that, I wasn't able to catch this particular show but I highlighted Taraji P. Henson because of the image I saw on Instagram. I follow Taraji's wonderful makeup artist, Ashunta Sheriff. She has her own makeup line and has been painting famous and beautiful faces for years. She is well-known in the industry and has garnered the attention of many artists and makeup enthusiasts alike.
What stands out to me about this photo is the fact that everything was so perfectly and well-done. When I first looked, I noticed the beautiful dress that the SAG Award winner is wearing. It REALLY stood out to me. In an amazing way. It's simply eye-catching. Her hair and makeup were beautiful without being overbearing or overly noticeable. They both stand out. It's just that they flow instead of "compete."
What a wonderful job her hairstylist, Tym Wallace and her fashion stylist, Jason Bolden did for her! It was befitting for a winner.
Congrats to ALL winners! Well-deserved!
RIP Mary Tyler Moore
Iconic. Legend. Beauty. Game changer.
These are just a few of the words that have been used to describe the talented and fun-loving artist known as Mary Tyler Moore. Today when I heard of her passing, it was a bit unexpected and sad. I wasn't ready for this.
There are a lot of reasons I love Mary Tyler Moore. One reason is her style and her ability to be graceful. Her style of dress, especially in The Mary Tyler Moore Show gives me so much life and inspiration. It's iconic and never goes out of style. Her makeup in the show is the same way for me. What always captured me with her makeup was smokey, sultry eye. It always spoke volumes for me in terms of her beauty.
It's so important to have makeup express your own personal beauty. No one can be a better you, than you. That's one important thing I'll always remember about Mary Tyler Moore.
Thank you for sharing your talents and gifts with the world.
Happy Birthday Betty White!
On January 17 2017, we said "Happy Birthday" to the amazing Betty White! I am here for this. . .95 years young! I appreciate her so much. She is such an inspiration. Here's to a wonderful year!
She is definitely a beauty and has been serving up beautifulness for decades. It has been amazing watching her continue to work and really inspire so many of us. She also isn't afraid to rock a red lip or bold lip showing us all that with a little confidence and boldness, we can do anything.
It's So Hard To Say Goodbye
Regal. Grace. Dignity. Class. And lastly, fashion and beauty icon. These are just a few words and phrases used to describe Michelle Obama.
The White House hasn't seen the likes of such a fashion icon since the 60s when Jackie Kennedy was serving the people with class and grace.
For me, personally, I had to post this because I remember just being in awe of this woman by the name of Michelle Obama along with countless others. Mrs. Obama has the power to command a room with her beauty, grace and fashion. She speaks with poise and elegance. She is loved and shows love to others with her warmth and welcoming personality.
In saying that, she isn't afraid to be her. During her time in the White House, she chose fashion designers who were new-up and coming. She launched careers. She caused chains like The Gap to sell out of clothing in record time. EVERY woman wanted to be like her. And let's talk about her physique. At 5'11", she's a tall, stunning woman who makes clothes look amazing. She encouraged all of us to be amazing.
I could go on but I'll stop here. Thank you, Mrs. Obama for having the courage, grace and style to be you. By doing so, you gave us permission to embrace who we were created to be.
